An
Vrombaut was born in Belgium in 1967. She studied animation at the
Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and at the Royal College of
Art in London. Her graduation film, 'Little Wolf' (1992), has won
many international awards including Best First Film at Annecy 1993.
A second short, 'When I grow up I want to be a Tiger' (1996), was
funded by the Mercedes-Benz Art Foundation and selected for the
Berlin Film Festival.
In
1999/2000 An created and directed '64 Zoo Lane', a TV series for
children. '64 Zoo Lane' was nominated for a BAFTA in 2000 and
won the Best Pre-school Category at the British Animation Awards
in 2002.
Her
first picture book, 'Tiger!' was published in 1999. Since then
she has written and illustrated 12 picture books, including 6
stories based on the TV series '64 Zoo Lane' and 'Smile, Crocodile,
Smile' which won the 2003 Nottingham Children's book Award.
An
has conducted workshops with young children at the Japan Kinderfilmfest
in Tokyo and has also taken part in 'Meet the Animator' sessions
at the Museum of the Moving Image in London. She regularly visits
primary schools to talk about her books and films.

lives in Harrow with her husband and two young children.
